New York Jets starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick injured his wrist in the first quarter of Sunday’s game against the Oakland Raiders. Geno Smith came in and, let’s just say that he wasn’t impressing anybody after being out of the lineup since early in training camp when he had his jaw broken.
The Jets quarterback situation isn’t dire, but coming off the heels of a 30-23 loss last week to the first place New England Patriots and today’s poor showing thus far, the Jets are contemplating shopping around the league for a signal caller who can help them make the playoffs this season.
According to Pro Football Talk:
Jets already are making calls for quarterbacks (Ryan Mallett probably should go to the airport now, just in case) https://t.co/B19MjQVU4c

This isn’t the first time this season the Jets have been connected to a story about trading for a quarterback. In September, it was reported that the Jets contemplated trading for Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins back when Cousins’ position on the depth chart was in question over the summer — he ended up taking the starting job from Robert Griffin III.
The Jets entered the day 4-2, currently in Wild Card contention in the AFC. The Raiders entered 3-4, but have improved each week, and have now joined the Jets and Pittsburgh Steelers as the AFC’s serious Wild Card contenders near the season’s midway point.
Time will tell to see if the Jets make a move for a quarterback. If it happens, it will happen before Tuesday’s 4 p.m. Trade Deadline.
